Remnants, what remains…
This work draws on the initial shock that I experienced from the forest fires that burnt mercilessly countless acres of Greek land – fires that destroyed life forms and lives.
Images of naked mountains, ashes, animal carcasses and homeless people took residence in my horror-stricken mind. Eventually these images subsided but only after they had carved out a space in me. This space was filled with the desire to play with forms, rhythms and textures. The terrible memory was replaced by a powerful rendition of it. Hence Remnants, has a dual signification. What remained after the destruction and what remained after the intense memory of it…
